CEO of Zimbabwe State Power Distributor Arrested Over Tender

The senior executive heading up state-owned Zimbabwe Electricity & Distribution Co. was arrested on October 3 by local police.
Joshua Chifamba (59) was charged along with the Zimbabwe Electricity Transmission and Distribution Company (ZETDC) managing director Julian Chinembiri (53) and finance director Thokozani Dhliwayo (51). All were quickly released on bail.
The arrests were linked to a $35 million tender involving an Indian company called PME”. PME Power Solutions India Ltd., based in Noida, India, manufactures power transformers.
The arrest may be an important indicator that Zimbabwe is going to start cracking down on the rampant corruption which has impoverished the country for much of its history. Until recently it has been ranked as one of the most corrupt on Earth.
