Volkswagen to Build Assembling Plant in Ghana
September 4, 2018
German Chancellor Angela Merkel made the surprise announcement that automaker VW will be building a car assembly plant in Ghana in the near future.
The announcement was made as part of Merkel’s recent three-nation African tour.
This makes VW’s third such plant in Africa. It already has existing facilities in Kenya and opened a new car plant in Rwanda as part of an expansion activity for the company.
The Ghana plant will be the first auto assembly plant in the entire country. VW is moving to have it built and staffed quickly, as it hopes to have a manufacturing capacity of 5,000 cars per year before 2018 is complete.
