Construction Nears Completion on Tanzania's Stiegler's Gorge Water Project
August 2, 2018
According to Tanzania’s Ministry of Water and Irrigation, the Stiegler’s Gorge water project is at 80 percent completion and scheduled to be finished by August 15.
The project, built by China Henan International Cooperation Group Co Limited, is a follow-on project connected to the existing water project in Kisarawe District. Once the project is complete, Stiegler’s Gorge’s two main water tanks will be able to produce an estimated 209,000 liters of water per day.
The water project is important as it will support a new dam being built at Stiegler’s Gorge. When that dam is finished, it will add 2,100 MW of power to Tanzania’s electrical grid, for a total installed capacity of 3,651 MW.
